BBC World closedown caption.

 

April 18th 2006, and BBC World finally ceases off 11113V on Hotbird 6 around midday UK time. After transmissions ended, this caption was radiated:

This comment from contributor "logjam" on the DigitalSpy forum about the closedown:

"I think it was intended to switch off the picture at the end of the 'World business report' and at the end of a 'swirl' logo, but it actually went off a few seconds into the Shell commercial.

I left my VCR running over lunch so I can now give you the exact time it went off. 11:57:25 GMT. (That's a couple of minutes to 1 o'clock BST.)

They put some thought into it, which I think indicates they realised it was a significant moment."
