BSB logo      BSB dishes into the 21st Century     BSB logo

Although the BSB services ceased at the end of 1991, there are still many of their dishes in place around the country.(despite the planning regulations stating that any disused dishes should be removed when no longer required!) This page has pictures of a few of them I've spotted around the Galashiels area. All forlornly point at the vacant 31°W, and with the demise of the BSB1 & BSB2 satellites during 2003, they are the last tangible reminders of the the BSB operation. These top two pictures were taken during September 2003.

Update - The 3 dishes pictured in Galashiels are still in place February 2008 - over 16 years after the service ceased....!

The first picture shows a BSB Squarial on the Granada / Box Clever shop on the A7 just up the road from Galashiels town centre.
Update - sadly this one was removed during shop renovations April 2008 - it was in the way of scaffolding erected around the shop.

Then second picture shows one of the mini circular dishes. These have a diameter of about 45cm - and pre-date the Sky "minidishes" by nearly 10 years! This one has had its LNB cable cut through at some point. It's next door to the "Gluepot" pub in Overhaugh Sreet

Here is a rather sad, overgrown squarial round the back of the old Comet store (now Intersport) - (next door to Tesco's superstore) in the town centre. This pic was snapped September 2004 and shows the dish  rapidly being hidden by an elderberry tree :-(

Keep an eye out for old BSB dishes. Its surprising how many of them are still around  :-) Ive still got at least one squarial to snap in Gala town centre - its on the Bridge pub when Im up that end of town & have remembered to pick the camera up.

Nelson - Lancashire

Heres a pic of one sent to me by David Craggs of Lancashire. He comments "the squariel is on Market Street in Nelson, Lancashire, on the back of 'Thoughts, Cards and Gifts' opposite the Lord Nelson Pub."
