KiKa renews analogue transmission capacity at 19.2°E

KI.KA SIGNS NEW LONG-TERM AGREEMENT WITH SES ASTRA FOR FREE-TO-AIR ANALOGUE SATELLITE DISTRIBUTION

ARD and ZDF’s children’s channel extends broadcasting hours on ASTRA 19.2° East

 

A new long-term agreement between SES ASTRA, an SES GLOBAL company (Luxembourg Stock Exchange: SESG; Frankfurt Stock Exchange: SDSL), and Kinderkanal secures capacity for continued analogue broadcast and provides for the extension of KI.KA’s prime time transmission hours. KI.KA can since 1 Jan 2003 be viewed an additional 2 hours per day from 19:00 until 21:00 on ASTRA transponder 49 (10.71425 GHz; H-Polarization) at 19.2° East.

The free-to-air analogue KI.KA service on ASTRA is already received in more than 22 million homes offering German-speaking viewers all over Europe fun, valuable and innovative TV programming for children free of commercials.

Commenting on the new agreement, Frank Beckmann, programming and managing director of Kinderkanal of ARD and ZDF, said: “The broad audience reach, with access to Europe’s largest analogue DTH-household base, achieved by using the ASTRA Satellite System is important for our distribution.
