Sonnenklar TV boosts audience with expansion into analogue via ASTRA

Travel channel sonnenklar TV will boost its potential audience by 13.4 to around 16 million homes in the German speaking countries, when it begins analogue satellite broadcasting via ASTRA from 1 March 2003 (Transponder 17, Frequency 11.464, horizontal polarization). SES ASTRA, an SES GLOBAL company (Luxembourg Stock Exchange: SESG; Frankfurt Stock Exchange: SESG) and Euvia Travel GmbH are pleased to announce their new agreement for transmission.

The German-language channel has been transmitted via ASTRA in digital since May 2002 (Transponder 87, Frequency 12.148,50, horizontal polarization, symbol rate 27500, FEC 3/4). Latest market updates show that sonnenklar TV’s digital reach via ASTRA is 2.44 million direct reception homes in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

sonnenklar TV will offer six hours of live programming each day and is introducing a team of tourist experts to keep viewers up-to-date with travel news and features. Programming will also feature special interest segments such as travel and family, travel and well-being, travel and cars and city breaks in order to address the specific interests of different target groups within their audience. Travel packages can be booked directly by telephone or through the Internet (www.sonnenklar.tv)

Alexander Oudendijk, SES ASTRA's Senior Vice President Sales and Marketing, wished sonnenklar TV well in its new programme changes and welcomed the expansion of the service into analogue. "ASTRA's exceptional reach and comprehensive service offering means we are perfectly placed to offer broadcasters flexibility in their transmissions," he said. "Our satellite fleet, co-located at key orbital positions, means we can accommodate both digital and analogue broadcasts and deliver them perfectly to audiences throughout Europe."
